Jr. Analytical Grammar & Mechanics
Jr. Analytical Grammar is a program intended to introduce the ideas of English grammar to younger students. It is designed to be taught in an eleven-week grammar "season" in either 4th or 5th grade. Created in response to parent requests for grammar materials for younger students, it covers the same material found in the first ten units of Analytical Grammar, but the exercises are shorter and the reading level is lower. It is also more "interactive" as far as the parent is concerned. Rather than the student reading notes, the "notes" are really a series of questions and activities designed to help the child understand the grammatical concepts.
The program is divided into eleven units; each taxes about a week to go through. Each unit builds on the one before, so students use what they've already learned to master the next concept.
Our junior version is a gentle, easy introduction to the concepts of English grammar. It is straightforward to teach and fun for both teacher and student.
Jr. Analytical Grammar covers:
Jr. Analytical Grammar includes:
Junior Analytical Mechanics has been written in response to frequent requests from our customers for instruction in punctuation, capitalization, and usage designed for children younger than those who are in the third "season" of Analytical Grammar. Many punctuation rules are based on a knowledge of advanced grammar, such as is covered in the second "season" of Analytical Grammar; however, we have pulled together those punctuation, capitalization, and usage rules which students with a thorough understanding of basic grammar can comprehend.
Jr. AG: Mechanics consists of 15 week long units and is recommended for students who have completed either Junior Analytical Grammar or the first "season" of Analytical Grammar. As is the case with all our grammar instruction, each unit builds on the previous one in a "spiral" approach.
Jr. AG: Mechanics covers:
Jr. AG: Mechanics includes:
Analytical Grammar teaches English grammar, punctuation, and usage. It is designed to be taught in three grammar "seasons" (see timeline) over three years; however, it is flexible enough to be adapted to a one or two year schedule.
AG has been used successfully with all students from the learning disabled to the highly gifted. This innovative and logical method is not only extremely effective, but makes learning grammar fun.
Analytical Grammar is an easy to follow, step by step approach that will prepare your student for high school and college level work. The home teacher does not need to be a grammar expert but can learn along with the student.
We also have optional DVD companions to use with AG. These will feature Erin and Robin teaching the lessons and practicing with a few sentences from each unit. The DVDs will be a big help for those who either don't have the time or feel they don't have the background to teach AG on their own.
If you do the program straight through, you only need a teacher book and student work book. IF YOU PLAN TO BREAK UP THE PROGRAM OVER TWO OR THREE YEARS, YOU MUST USE THE REINFORCEMENT AND REVIEW BOOK AS WELL. Please don't break the program up without using the R&R book.

High School Reinforcement
Customers ask the same question repeatedly: “What do we do for grammar in high school when my child has completed AG?”
In high school, grammar study should be complete. A student should apply his or her knowledge of grammar and mechanics to the study of literature and writing. BUT … many teachers want a way for their students to keep grammar skills and terminology sharp without “doing” a daily grammar program again.
Our High School Reinforcement books are the answer. There are four books, one for each year in high school. Each is set up with activities to reinforce all the grammar, diagraming, analysis, punctuation and usage taught in AG.
Each High School Reinforcement book contains 18 exercises, enough for one worksheet every two weeks throughout a school year.
The High School Reinforcement books each focus on a literature topic: American authors,
British authors, World authors, and Shakespeare’s plays. Choose a book that supports your literature focus for that year; the order doesn’t matter.
The High School Reinforcement books reinforce:
Beyond the Book Report & Teaching the Essay, Research Paper
Beyond the Book Report is our new middle/early high school language arts curriculum. Middle school is a special time. These kids are not just short high schoolers or tall elementary students. This is the time to cover all those skills and knowledge items and get your student prepared for high school literature and writing.
Beyond the Book Report is designed to pair with Analytical Grammar to provide a seamless, full-coverage, meaty, productful middle school language arts course that doesn't take up your whole day. By using AG and BBR together (just add the vocab of your choice!), you can teach middle school language arts in about an hour a day.
BBR is broken up into three seasons.
