WHAT DOCTRINES ARE TAUGHT IN CLASS?
At Beacon of Hope, we are not lead to teach doctrine to our students. We recognize that the Bible can have differing interpretations. We also believe that God will convict you of anything that He wants changed, that is not our job. We will teach the truths of the Bible, nothing more. Because of this, we believe that doctrine should be taught by the family. Our goal is to present the Gospel to your child through our history or devotion. We require that the student sit down with their parents and talk about the daily verse that is assigned to them. Once this has been done, a discussion is to be completed by the students to discuss different insights or thoughts that God showed them while reading. They could also use this as a forum to mention some things discussed during the family devotional time. We encourage students to be polite and not criticize other students for their beliefs in this forum. Therefore, there are no right or wrong answers as the Bible is subjected to individual interpretation.
WHAT RELIGIONS ARE WELCOMED AT BEACON OF HOPE?
All regions are welcome at our school. However, keep in mind that our school believes that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and this is what will be exposed to your student through the teachings of the New King James Bible.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO SEE A CLASS IN SESSION?
This question can be answered with a yes and a no. If classes are currently in session, then yes, you can join a class to see how they are conducted. If we are on a break or it's summer time, then we can only provide you with a video to watch of a live class that was recorded. This is an option that we love for everyone to take advantage of because it is sometimes hard to grasp what exactly we do in a "live virtual class". What we are developing with Beacon of Hope is the wave of the future in education. In the next 10 years, a majority of schools will be conducted online to save on costs and we are excited to be forerunners in this venture!
WHY WAS THIS PROGRAM DEVELOPED?
We developed this program to help families provide a quality education to their children that is surrounded with our Creator, accessible from the comfort of your home. Teaching your own children can have positive and negative results. One of the negatives is the resentment and struggles that parents have getting their children to learn and stay on task. With our program, we take away the negatives and allow you to have the positive, enjoyable time working with your students on homework and other fun activities. Children love structure and routine and with our program, you are able to stick to a routine during the week when it comes to your educational needs.
WHO IS OUR PROGRAM FOR?
This program is for those who are wanting to be able to receive an education from home. On the other hand, this program can work well for families in these special circumstances: families that like to travel for a large part of the year, families that have actors or models that are on call all hours of the day, or other similar circumstances. If you have an internet connection, no matter where you go, you will be able to attend classes. All class sessions are recorded so if you are unable to attend the live session, you would be able to watch the recording and still turn in your assignments. Being in our program requires self-motivation and discipline in order for the student to be able to complete assignments on their own at home.
HOW ARE WE FUNDED?
Unlike public and most private schools, we are solely funded by the tuition's that are collected from the families that are in our school. Because we do not accept state or government funding, we do not follow any common core requirements.
HOW MANY HOURS AND DAYS A WEEK ARE CLASSES HELD?
All live classes run 20 to 50 minutes per class, Monday through Thursday. They are assigned homework to be completed and turned in for grading. We do not hold classes on Fridays so that the students can have a day to catch up on any assignments that need to be turned in or if they would like to make corrections to any work to bring up their grade. This day off also gives the option to our homeschool students to have a day to go on field trips with their family or their CoOp group. We observe most holidays and provide Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter breaks throughout the school year.
